Guest Blogger VI: Shades of Kingsbury

AIKEN'S NOTES:
First of all, I consider any comparison to Karen Kingsbury a premier compliment. I am not only a fan of her work, but of her life. Secondly, I strongly believe that we have all been given unique and specific spiritual gifts which we are expected to use for the glory of our Savior. Therefore, for me, writing Christian Fiction is not an option, but a responsibility. I will continue to be open to the messages God places on my heart, and I pray for Him to guide my pen always. Lastly, I love the play on words used in this blog title! If you have not read Karen Kingsbury's "Shades of Blue"...I highly recommend it!

Shades of Kingsbury

Aiken BrownI am an avid reader and a long-time fan of popular Christian Fiction author, Karen Kingsbury. Like most of us, I have read several Christian Fiction authors over the years, and I have learned that finding one who gets the balance right is a rare find. Kingsbury accomplishes it, and, with her own fresh approach, so does relative newcomer, Aiken Brown.

For Such a Time as This
, while less subtle than her debut novel In a Brother's Eyes: the Brant McLachlan Story, still maintains a good balance between a captivating storyline and a moral statement. Christian books such as those written by Kingsbury and Brown are able to operate as mouthpieces demonstrating the love God has for his people without turning off critical readers such as myself.

Karen Kingsbury has had a sucessful career in Christian Fiction because I truly believe that God gave her a gift, and He uses her novels to speak through. I believe He gave Aiken Brown this same gift, and, as a fan of both women's work, I hope they both continue to use their gifts for years to come!
